Top 5 Historical Places to Visit in Madinah

Madinah Al-Munawwarah, the Radiant City, is not only the resting place of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but also a treasure trove of Islamic history. While the Prophet’s Mosque is the heart of the city, there are numerous other sites that every visitor should strive to see.

1. Masjid Quba
The first mosque built by the Prophet (PBUH) upon his arrival in Madinah. Prayers here hold immense reward; the Prophet (PBUH) said that whoever purifies himself at home and then comes to Masjid Quba and prays two Raka’ahs, will have the reward of an Umrah.

2. Mount Uhud
This majestic mountain was the site of the Battle of Uhud. It holds a special place in the Prophet’s (PBUH) heart, who declared, "Uhud is a mountain that loves us and we love it." Visitors can also pay respects at the graves of the martyrs of Uhud, including Hamza (RA).

3. Masjid Al-Qiblatayn
Historically significant as the mosque where the revelation came to change the Qibla direction from Jerusalem (Bayt al-Maqdis) to Mecca (the Kaaba) during a midday prayer.

4. The Seven Mosques (Al-Masajid As-Sab’ah)
Located near the site of the Battle of the Trench (Khandaq), these small mosques mark the spots where various companions stationed themselves during the siege.

5. Jannat al-Baqi
The main cemetery of Madinah, located adjacent to Masjid An-Nabawi. It is the resting place of thousands of the Prophet’s (PBUH) companions, family members, and scholars.
